Taking A Stand For What You Believe
Lately, I have been working on finding my voice. To have the courage to say what’s really on my mind, especially with a bigger audience.
To not water it down so that will appeal to everyone (which is impossible anyways) and not ruffle any feathers. To still be kind . . . and more direct.
To not worry about “what will people think?”
Here’s the thing: everything you want is on the other side of your fears and worries.
They hold you back from taking a stand for what you believe in and want, and prevent you from being the leader you truly want to be.
I am letting go of that worry and taking a stronger stand on just how critical it is to be bold and create balance in your life. I don’t believe it is BS or a myth.
I believe it is a strategic move we need more than ever in a world with so many demands and expectations coming at you.
Because it is really hard to show up as your best self when you are feeling overwhelmed and running on empty, scattered and pulled in many directions, or constantly feeling guilty for shortchanging an important area of your life or letting someone down.
So, what does balance look like?
It is not about the exact number of hours you spend at work or at home, but rather about having space and presence for all the important areas of your life.
It's not work and then you have a life . . . work is a part of your life, after all!
It's focusing your time and attention on the right things at the right time and slowing down instead of rushing from one thing to the next.
It’s developing an inner calm and confidence instead of feeling impatient and constantly doubting yourself, which is unproductive (and doesn't feel very good).
It’s having real boundaries with time and people so you can focus on what matters and let go of what doesn't.
It’s doing more of what energizes you and moves the needle and less of what drains you and is not a good use of your time.
It’s being present and finding joy in the small moments with your team or your family or the people around you, and spending less time distracted or caught up in worry.
It's making well-being a priority, instead of sacrificing it.
Balance looks different for different people. It's not perfect or that you'll never have an off day. And, small changes can make a pretty big difference.
This is what I strive for in my life and what I help my clients with. And, it’s the difference I want to make so that other leaders can show up as their bold, balanced and best self.
What are you willing to take a stand for?
I'm here cheering you on!
