How Do You Want To Show Up In Your Life?
For one of my recent clients (“Kerri”), the biggest takeaway from our work together was this . .
Don't compromise who you are and what you value.
It’s so profound and simple. Yet, often not at the forefront for people.
When we started working together, she had not been feeling like herself.
She was short on patience and snapping at people. She seemed frustrated with the direction of the company.
Her performance and relationships suffered at work. She rarely got a good night's sleep and was tired all the time.
And her family wasn’t receiving much of her time and presence.
She was debating if she even wanted to stay with the company.
Instead of focusing on all the stress and frustration, we spent more time on exploring questions like . . .
Who do you want to be as a leader? How do you want to feel? What can you do to align your actions with your values?
How do you want to show up?
This was an easy conversation. It flowed. She knew it in her core.
It’s not about being someone you are not, or being perfect. It is about getting closer to who you really are and what feels right for you.
And intentionally choosing to show up in that way – even when things feel hard.
Because all the stress is just hiding your best.
In the 6 months, she navigated a pandemic with her team and got a promotion, all while juggling working from home with kids.
She felt more confident, happy with how she was leading, and she took time for herself and her family.
She still has hard days and struggles (we all do), but was more intentional in how she shows up in those moments and takes a break when she needs to recharge.
Kerri learned to not compromise who she was and what she valued.
Everything gets easier when you work from this place. Choices are more clear, you feel less internal conflict and more fulfilled, and that's when you can truly shine.
You are being in integrity with yourself.
So, what kind of leader do YOU want to be? What do you want people to feel when they are interacting with you?
What do you need to take a stand for, even though it goes against the grain and may not be what everyone else is doing?
How do you want to show up?
And then walk your talk. Again, this is integrity.
You want your team to make their well-being a priority? Start with your own.
You don't want your team working themselves into the ground? Don't do it yourself.
You want your team to remain optimistic and calm? You remain optimistic and calm.
You want your team to share how they are struggling? You share.
You want your kids to feel good about school? You chill out.
You want your kids to stop being on screens all the time, put your phone away? Well, this is one I am working on too!
Model the behaviors you want to see. Be the leader or parent you aspire to be and let that guide your choices.
You’ll feel more fulfillment and less internal conflict. That's where YOU will shine.
Let’s start small.
