Are You Feeling Like You Need a Reset?

Are You Feeling Like You Need a Reset?

August 06, 20214 min read

For me, the month of July means summer vacation, enjoying time at the lake with family and friends, and taking a real break from the daily responsibilities and to-dos.

And, to reset and recalibrate from the past few months.

This summer though, I realized that I needed an even bigger reset than usual!

After a year of running my business and helping more than 300 busy professionals to step out of overworking, feel less overwhelmed and stressed, and be confident to lead and live aligned with their values.

Juggling that with my kids being in and out of school unexpectantly and the moral fatigue of constantly figuring out what was ok and not ok to do.

Being a coach, mom, teacher, wife, organizer, mediator, cheerleader, and more.

As I got to the middle of July, when I usually ramp up in business again, I realized I didn’t want to do ANY work  -- other than serve existing clients.

I longed for more downtime than usual and did not feel like forcing myself to do things.

I gave myself permission to focus on the bare minimum and not worry about the rest.

I let go of the guilt and pressure that I should be doing more.

I listened to what I needed and honored that. Trusting it was just a period, and I would feel that drive again.

The old me would have NEVER listened to that feeling and my intuition. I am thankful that I did.

I share this so that you don’t feel alone if you find yourself feeling this way and that it’s super important to pay attention to what you need.

It can be easy to think that you have no time for your own reset. Or tell yourself that you have already given yourself a break so don't deserve it. Or that it's selfish.

But listening to what you need sets you up for success for the road ahead.

When you don’t listen to what you need, you likely will feel more stress and overwhelm, be less effective, and at some point, hit a wall.

So, check-in with yourself. Right now. Take a deep breath.

Acknowledge yourself for all you have done and how you have been handling things.

Feel gratitude and appreciation for what you do have.

Strip away the pressure to be and do more.

And then ask yourself, what do I really need right now? How do I want to feel? Do I need a reset and what would it look like for me?

Is it some downtime, a change of scenery, doing what gives you joy guilt-free, or caring less about pleasing everyone else? Is it an hour, a day, a week or more?

What is your intuition telling you that you need?

The counterintuitive thing is that when you honor what you need, you free up energy and can get back to feeling like yourself more quickly.
